How Much Does a Night in Singapore Cost?

In Singapore, it is not necessarily food or transportation that pushes your budget up. Accommodation is often the biggest expense.

The city offers an enormous range of options, from capsule hotels to luxury properties around Marina Bay, but prices remain noticeably higher than in much of Southeast Asia.

So how much should you realistically budget for one night?

To decide how long to stay, read our article How Long Do You Need to Visit Singapore?. You can also check our guide to Singapore MRT: How to Use the Metro Easily.

How Much Should You Budget Depending on the Type of Accommodation?

As a simple benchmark:

Type of accommodation Typical price per night
Dorm / capsule hotel €25 to €60
Basic hotel €80 to €120
3-star hotel €100 to €140
4-star hotel €140 to €200
5-star hotel €250+

These figures are only indicative: prices can vary significantly depending on the season, neighborhood and, above all, how far in advance you book.

As a reference, Booking.com currently shows average prices of around €107 for a 3-star hotel, €158 for a 4-star hotel and €297 for a 5-star hotel in Singapore.

The official Visit Singapore website also indicates that well-located mid-range hotels start at around €82 per night, while luxury properties start at around €231. These conversions are approximate and based on current exchange rates.

Can You Stay in Singapore Without Spending €100 a Night?

Yes.

Capsule hotels and dorms remain the best way to keep the cost of a night in Singapore under control. Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam in particular have plenty of hostels and compact accommodation options.

However, these prices should not be compared directly with Thailand, Laos or Indonesia: even a budget option can still cost several dozen euros per night.

For solo travelers, a capsule hotel is therefore often an excellent compromise. For couples, however, two dorm beds can sometimes cost almost as much as a small private room.

Why Are Hotels So Expensive in Singapore?

Singapore combines several factors: limited space, high property prices, a high standard of living and strong demand from both tourists and business travelers.

The neighborhood also makes a major difference.

Marina Bay and Orchard are generally among the most expensive areas. By contrast, Little India, Lavender, Bugis, Chinatown and Geylang often offer better value for money.

There is also no real need to stay right next to Marina Bay. Singapore’s MRT network is efficient enough to reach the main districts quickly from slightly more outlying areas.

Is It Worth Staying for Just One Night?

Yes, especially if Singapore is part of a longer trip through Asia.

A single night already lets you experience the city in the evening and spend a full day sightseeing before leaving. But if your schedule allows, staying several days means you do not have to reduce Singapore to Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay.

How Can You Pay Less for Accommodation?

The main way to save money is to book early, especially if your stay falls on a weekend, during a major event or in a busy travel period.

Comparing several neighborhoods is also more effective than looking only around Marina Bay. In Singapore, saving €30 or €40 on one night can amount to more than your entire food and transportation budget for the day.

To compare the city’s different areas and plan your stay, the official Visit Singapore website is a useful starting point.

Our view: Singapore is not necessarily an excessively expensive destination, but accommodation does cost significantly more than elsewhere in Southeast Asia. To keep your budget under control, it makes more sense to save on location or hotel category than to shorten your stay.
